DfE T-LEvel employer of the year (South-east) 2024
InTandem have been proud to engage with T-Levels in our own business, offering T-Level industry placements since Wave 1 launch in June 2020. Additionally we invest time in promoting T-Levels to other employers through speaking at national-level webinars and conferences. We are proud this work has been recognised by receiving the regional award for DfE T-Level Employer of the Year 2024.
At one point in 2024, we had 5 T-Level students, and 2 of them have now been recruited into our apprenticeship programme… a great example of how T-Levels can form an integral part of a recruitment strategy, helping fill the skills engineering gap and providing a career pathway for young people.
BCIA Young Engineer of the Year
- Abbie 2023
Following on from her role as Vice-Chair of the BCIA Young Engineers Network, Abbie received the award of Young Engineer of the Year at the 2023 BCIA Awards. Abbie is currently in her final year of studying for a Mechanical Engineering degree and supports InTandem through her role as a Trainee Controls Engineer.
BCIA Apprentice of the Year
- Rob 2023
Rob was awarded Apprentice of the Year in 2023, a new award for this year’s BCIA awards. This award highlights Rob’s achievements through his role with InTandem as an apprentice working with our Product and Site Team.
cibse employer of the year 2020 for Small business category and overall
InTandem are proud that our team won CIBSE Employer of the year in 2020 and 2017 in the small business category, and also won the overall category. This means a lot for us at InTandem as we have a strong focus on young engineers. We encourage all staff to learn from each other as the whole team has knowledge/skills/insights to share from their diverse backgrounds/experiences and their different routes into BEMS.
InTandem was also a CIBSE finalist in the 2023 Young Engineers Award for their continuing commitment to developing young engineers, especially through the T-Level programme.
bcia contribution to training award 2021
InTandem was awarded the Contribution to Training award in 2021 for our work with training control professionals, clients and apprentices towards the installation, design, and use of building controls and BEMS.
BCIA YOUNG ENGINEER OF THE YEAR
- JAKE 2020
Jake joined the business as a Placement Student in 2016 then carried on during his final year at university before joining full-time in 2017. He has an immense thirst for knowledge both from a theoretical and practical perspective and always strives to find a solution to whatever problem is thrown at him. He values training highly and is always planning the next steps in his person development
Amongst Jake’s Achievements to date are:
- CIBSE President’s project prize for environmental models for BEMS
- Knowledge Transfer Partnership(KTP) Associate with University of Portsmouth/InTandem Systems
- Presented a paper (Efficient and Effective Building Control Systems) at CIBSE Technical Symposium April 2019
bcia young engineer of the year
- george 2017
George was awarded the Young Engineer of the year award in 2017 in Building Controls Industry Association. Since then George has been doing all he can to encourage other young engineers to follow a career in the challenging and dynamic building services sector. He was appointed as Operations Director of InTandem Systems in 2021, so combines his role as BEMS Controls Engineer with strategically guiding the business wide resourcing labour/materials/access/logistics function.
bcia Past President jon belfield 2018- 2020
Jon has extensive experience in the building controls sector and is a fellow of CIBSE (FCIBSE) and a Chartered Engineer. Jon was President of the BCIA from 2018-2020 and during that time he focused upon the importance of continuous professional development and encouraging the next generation to join the building controls sector whilst bridging the industry skills gap.
Jon still has strong links with the BCIA and is an active member of the CIBSE IT and Controls Group and strives to raise the professionalism across the whole supply chain so we can get buildings performing more efficiently and effectively.

bcia outstanding contribution award 2019 and 2021
After over 20 years in the Building Services sector Wendy Belfield was awarded the BCIA Outstanding Contribution Award in 2019. This award recognised Wendy’s work in the sector to promote BEMS to a new generation of young engineers. Her efforts culminated in the approval of the BEMS Controls Engineer trail blazer standard in February 2020 so that engineers now have a Government funded route to qualification.
Two years later, Jon was also recognised for his massive contribution to the BEMS sector. He received the Outstanding Contribution Award in 2021 in recognition of the time, effort, enthusiasm and leadership dedicated to new initiatives which benefitted the whole industry.
